MAT Overview

The MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test) is taken in October of Year 13, by applicants for maths and computer science at Oxford University. It aims to test the depth of mathematical understanding of a student rather than a breadth of knowledge, and the specification is similar to (but not exactly the same as) the TMUA.

The University of Oxford offers a great free weekly Livestream discussing maths problems and problem-solving strategies from June to October, with a focus on the MAT. The sessions are free and available for everyone, and are recorded so that you can watch them later even if you can't join live. The topic based worksheets used in the livestream, containing revision notes and questions, are also available to download. For further details visit www.maths.ox.ac.uk/r/matlive

The TMUA resources that I have developed will also be useful when preparing for the MAT, as the specification is very similar, and since 2024 the format of the MAT exam is now predominantly multiple choice questions.
